Like a moth to a flame. Stripes - especially the pretty pastel kind - are my weakness. Something about them sings of summer and so today I sing its praises, while dreaming of being on a striped towel under a striped umbrella. No pinstripes allowed, obviously.
Ah yes, spring break. We used to be more than just acquaintances. It's a friendships I held on to as long as I could; it withstood my Teach for America and law school days. But alas, the bond is broken. All that is left is a half-empty promise to return way in the future, when I have children who need entertaining during a school holiday.
And to be perfectly honest the idea of that reunion with my good childhood/college/young adult friend Spring Break just doesn't tickle my pickle at the moment. In fact, it makes me flare my nostrils and eye roll in much the same way scrolling through Instagram and seeing mid-week vacation-bound people while I make a permanent (yet comfortable) dent in my office chair does.
But lest I leave you with the impression that I'm bitter and old and a woe-is-me mood-killer (who, me?), know that - even if for a fleeting moment - shopping for swimwear and beach accessories is enough to harken back fond memories with dear #SBK and enough to put a (fleeting) smile on my very pale, Vitamin D-deficient face.

As a survivor of a little something I like to call my-mother-was-the-showstopper-at-my-wedding, I'm here to assuage the qualms some brides-to-be may have of going through a similar life experience. Chances are, if you're at risk of MMWTSAMW, you're already comfortable living in mother dearest's shadow and she is kind of a showstopper on a day to day basis. I'll cut to the short of it - this road to recovery is much like all others: accept it, move on, and find the silver lining.
The silver lining I hang my hat on is the thought of one day inheriting the emerald green Carolina Herrera gown my mom wore to my wedding (and upstaging my future daughter at her own nuptials - I kid, I kid....lolz). So when Over the Moon asked me to pull some MOB looks this week, I wasn't just helping all the future mother-the-brides, but the future brides too. Lions don't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep, and brides lose less sleep when their moms wear a dress the bride gets to keep. Toma-toe, toma-to.

Another week of Houston Rodeo, another week of western wear. This time with a little less frills and a little more leather to symbolize the no-nonsense attitude you can feel in that crisp NRG air when calves refuse to be tied down and bulls try to jump out of their pens. Kinda like when I release my pent up aggression from being confined to a cubicle all day by treating myself to an almond croissant on ze way to work (arriving 10 minutes later than usual? So be it!). Rock on and rodeo on, amigos.
