Welcome to the Vortex

I'm aware I often come across as easy-to-excite, but by no means let that detract from how genuinely ballz-to-ze-wall *jazzed* up I feel about hosting the After Party to the "Welcome to the Vortex" event at the Lawndale Art Center next Thursday, April 12 (deets below). The fundraising event "takes its inspiration from Yayoi Kusama and David Bowie, James Turrell and Anish Kapoor, whose work crosses several genres and plays with scale, light, and color to disrupt our sense of normalcy." But you don't have to be artsy to appreciate a night of not-the-usual fun in Houston, especially when the dress code is "Glam/Illusions Attire". Think cocktails + costumes + cool art + food trucks + fun crowds you'll actually want to small talk with = me thinks it's a good idea to buy a ticket

I'm operating off the assumption (aka I'm convinced) that it's not only still cool to go #ham on a #schoolnight, but that being the host of the after party (whether it be for prom, a fundraising event, or otherwise) still gets you a years-worth supply of street cred, at the very least . Which is why together with my cousin Alice Johnson and her fiancΓ© Nick Adair, my husband and I are pre-ttay pre-ttay pumped to be hosting the 9-11 pm, less expensive ticket option. Gone be the days of why-am-I/is-Houston-so-boring-sometimes? and HELLO to who-is-that-beautiful-sequined-feather-bomb-in-the-bright-red-wig?!

See. You. There.
